SPRING 2016 AAU Fashion Show Review

The day is slowly winding down and coming to an end, and I just completed a project I am really proud of. It's my first fashion journalism type of article that I've ever really done and though I was quite nervous about it at first, I really enjoyed the process overall. There's something so exhilarating about throwing yourself into what you are so incredibly passionate about. The things that seemed daunting or dreadful, like Mondays or school, turn into this unbridled, excitement-filled pursuit.

Since New York Fashion Week just ended, and I've been on WAY too long of a hiatus on here, I wanted to share with you my first fashion article like the proud Mama I am haha.

Enjoy :D

Waisted Ties

No, not waisted ties with people or relationships,
but shown off that hidden figure with ties around the waist! ;)

[You can watch the Outfit Video HERE}

SHOES⟶ Calvin Klein brand from Macys

I really liked this location while I was shooting because of the sunset, but I guess we took a bit too long to switch off between shooting her outfit and mine because after we ended up shooting my photos, security came lol. He was nice enough to let me finish filming my outfit for the video, but we only had about 5-10mins to #GTFO of there hahaha.

Floral Feels | Graffiti Hunting

NECKLACE⟶ Ali Express (Not the same seller, but the same necklace http://bit.ly/1RFUP5y )
SHOES⟶ Bamboo brand from the LA Fashion District
BAG⟶ Dooney & Bourke handed down from my mom http://ebay.to/1Gs8OQL

This was a really fun shoot that I got to do with my friend and former co-worker, also named Kristin (spelt differently of course, but the same awesome name lol).
This was our second go-around of pulling together an all day shoot {here's the first shoot}, that consisted of photos and a video. We knew what to expect and we were much more prepared for it.

THAT, and we had a much easier time going on an adventure looking for different places to shoot around town because we were more familiar with that area lol. This shoot was probably my favorite though, because I'm such a sucker for graffiti. The mural that I'm standing in front of is actually done by my talented, high school classmate {IG}@bothersome. Every year PowWow Hawaii always goes around Kaka'ako and does sick murals all over different buildings.
{Photos taken by me}
This shoot gave me a perfect excuse to bring back an old past time of mine{graffiti hunting}.
   Graffiti is actually one of my favorite forms of art, besides fashion. To me, graffiti is urban, dynamic, alluring and mysterious. The different styles, techniques, and the struggles they have to overcome to even create their work, are some of the things that really draw me to street art. Some pieces are commissioned, and some aren't. Sometimes they're there, and the next day they're not. It's a game of chance when you catch a glimpse of a mural or even a small piece. You tend to appreciate it more when it's time at a location is fleeting. Its what makes it special to me.

{Photo taken by me. Spotted on a pole while walking through SF's Japantown}
Whether it's exploring Hawaii's downtown, or walking through San Francisco's downtown on my way to school, spotting graffiti is like my sort of "stop-to-smell-the-roses" type of moment. I enjoy the surprise of an unexpected piece of art in the midst of a concrete jungle, and stop to appreciate it…
because it might be the last time I see it again 😉
Don't forget to take yours!

As it Comes to an End

 Photos by Moriah Nakada

This was the last outfit that I threw together to end the spring 2015 semester (more like the only thing that I could throw together since I packed and shipped home some of the clothes and shoes I didn't think I would need.). Several friends and I went to the AAU graduation fashion show after my last, and final, class. It was just the thing I needed to officially end the school year. Surprisingly the only thing that was a major stress that week was packing, not my finals (thank God! haha).

Rumor has it that the first year of your college career is always the hardest. As this wasn't my first year at college, this was, however, my first completed year at AAU; away from home, my family, and a lot of the resources that I've come to rely on so much. I have learned so much from this first year and am so grateful for the opportunities and experiences that this has brought me. It opened my eyes and my heart to realize I am exactly where I should be in life, and why I first fell in love with fashion.

I hope everyone has an awesome summer! (More exciting things happening… go check out my YouTube channel for more recent updates! LoveKikueVideos)

Shoe Collection

Hey loves,
Since I'm back home and had access to all of my shoes, I wanted to take the opportunity to film them for you guys. I wanted to share with you guys where I normally get my shoes and that you don't have to always break the bank for a good pair of shoes. The shoe that I actually get the most compliments on, I got it at Target (It's the beaten up black, patent leather pump… It's seen some better days, but still gets the most compliments!). I hope you guys enjoy and thank you so much for watching!

New Video up on my youtube channel!
I hope everyone has an awesome 4th of July!!

Maxed Out

Maxi Dress | House of Aria
Jacket | Jeans Warehouse
Boots | Necessary clothing
Necklace | Forever 21

Is anyone else vertically challenged out there and faced with maxi skirts, dresses, or anything else that's flows to the ground? Well I was not blessed with height, but that won't stop me from rockin' out a maxi anything. I normally will hem things up myself or get it hemmed, but that day I just felt like wearing this because it was such a nice day. Despite the fact that I didn't quite yet hem it, I still wore it. Simple solution was to just tie it so that it gives the dress a temporary hem up, but it adds a different shape to the dress and added a bit more interest to the outfit.

Former Floral

 Photos by Allison K.

I wanted to post this before spring officially ends. I've had these floral shorts from Forever 21 for over 5 years now (I'm surprised they still fit haha). I haven't worn these in a couple of years, but when I brought these back to San Francisco with me when I was home during winter, I was determined to dress these in a different light then they were worn before (or dark, if you want to be litter all haha↑).
Circa August 8, 2010

Not only have I learned how to take better selfie's over the years, but hopefully I've learned to style these shorts better as well lol. What do you guys think? haha

Snap Back from the Snapback

Photos by Rebecca Sinclaire (My awesome roommate)

Spring semester 2015 is over and so is my stay in the dorms... for now. I am now back home in Hawaii and looking through my outfit photo's I've shot this past spring. A sense of woeful, longing emotions wash over me as I've come to love, and miss, this city so much. This city that helped not only evolve my style, but help me evolve as an adult, still trying to figure out who I am.

I've always admired bloggers for their creativity and courage to put themselves out there and try new things. Something that astounded me was how Jen Im, from Clothes Encounters, could rock any snapback cap into an outfit and have it look so put together. It was just the right balance of casual, added to an outfit, without ever diminishing the level of chicness.

Growing up in a place surrounded by t-shirts and shorts as the main attire, and flip-flops (known more predominantly as rubber slippers in Hawaii) with snapbacks as most people's choice of accessory, you sort of have a preconceived association with them. I decided to challenge myself with donning something so casual, and styling it with something a little more feminine. The velvet, blown out designs that are scattered across the top have such an elegance to them that inspired me to mesh the two into an outfit.

I know it's no where near the caliber of Jenn Im and I have a long way to go, but I'm trying, right? I can only continue to challenge and improve myself to move forward and become better than I was yesterday. The beautiful city of San Francisco has inspired me in so many ways, and for that, I will always be forever grateful to it.
